Types of Gates

Gates are very popular for lawns and gardens that have fences to keep the area enclosed. Whether this is for aesthetic reasons or there are children or pets that need to be kept inside, the gates can add a decorative touch as well as serve a functional purpose. They may be made of almost any material capable of withstanding daily use, from wood to iron to steel. Many gates are made from the same materials as the fence in order to create a unified look. They may lock or simply be hinged on one end, waist-high or even higher, and can have any number of decorative accents.

Gates are also used inside the home for when young children or pets are present and need to be kept away from particular areas. Usually these types of gates attach between two walls and block off an area completely unless they are removed, although some will mount permanently but only swing in one direction. They may be placed at the top of a stairway to keep children from falling, in doorways where children should not be allowed to play, or to keep young puppies inside a room when being trained.
